It has been a festive final week in Cusco!!! There was one parade for a Catholic holiday -- we never quite figured out what the specific festival was.
The very next day, on the 31st of August, there was a reenactment of Inca ceremonies in front of what was the sun temple. There were a bunch of kids so we thought it may be for school. However, they were speaking in Spanish so we weren't able to understand what exactly was happening but it was still cool.We also took time away from festivals to go kite flying near the Temple of the Moon. The park sits about a 45 minute hike above Cusco. There was also one rainy day mixed in with beautiful sunshine,
Finally, on Eliza's birthday, there was a huge parade with several marching bands, dance groups, and more. To say it was fun chaos is an understatement. When all the groups were coming to the main plaza they surrounded cars and people watching from both sides. Dad's favorite group was the people pretending to be drunk cowboys -- they were very funny. It seemed like all of Cusco came out to enjoy the festivities.Tomorrow, we head out on our trek around the Andes Mountains! Cusco has been fun.

Have so much fun in the Andes! I can't wait to hear how they compare to some other mountains you have climbed!
ReplyDeleteAlso, what fun parades! I think the dancing women in hats might be my favorite. Which group was yours?
