Week 26: New Year in Oman (posted by Jane)

We arrived in Oman the day after Christmas. To say it was a big shift from India is an understatement. Where India was all traffic and car horns, Oman was quiet and had smooth driving. On our first full day, we explored Muscat's souq and water front.

On December 28th, we went to one of the most visited places in Oman, Wadi Shab, which is a hike through an arid canyon to turquoise swimming pools. Then we drove to Sur were we would stay before going to the desert for the 29th and 30th.

To get to lodge in the desert we got picked up by someone much more confident in driving on dunes. Wahibi Sands, the part of the desert we were in, was gorgeous and we had an amazing time running and sledding down the dunes. Going up the dunes was a lot harder.

After the desert we headed up to the mountains to cool off and for the new year. We enjoyed beautiful hikes around the mountain and the fun swimming pool.

We ended our time in Oman back in Muscat, so that we could visit the Grand Mosque and Eliza could get new shoes at the big shopping mall!

  1. What an interesting part of the Middle East. Thanks for all the details of what you saw. Maybe next time I go to Beirut I'll head over to Oman to see some of that. Beautiful.
