On our drive up to Istanbul we had two very important stops: the ancient city of Troy and Gallipoli. Before arriving in Troy we listened to the novel Troy by Stephen Fry. We were surprised to find out that there were actually eight different cities built on top of each other over the centuries. We also didn't get down poured on, so we'll take that as a win!

The next day we visited Gallipoli, the site of one of the most major battles in World War I, and one of the last Ottoman wins in the war. It was very wet and cold so we understood why the British decided to leave. We learned all about Ataturk and his famous line: I am not ordering you to attack, I'm ordering you to die.

We found old shrapnel pieces, barbed wire, and even a WWI button. Our guide might have helped a bit though.

It has been a whirlwind of learning and traveling for the past couple days, and it has also been so fun! Well only if you don't think to much about how humanity always seems to be at war.

Makes ancient Rome look simple. Your recaps of Turkey are definitely making me want to visit. Thank you for sharing!!
