On Sunday, February 1, we drove from Gallipoli to Istanbul, and dropped Dad of at the airport for his interviews in Atlanta. The remaining Morris's walked around Istanbul.
The next day, we walked over the Golden Horn, saw all of the old Turkish men fishing. We also walked to Galata Tower, which was very old and interesting.
The next day, we (finally) awoke to blue skies, and went to Dolmabahçe Palace, which had beautiful gardens, and breathtaking stonework on the building.

Once again, we had blue skies. we thought it was a good opportunity to go to the Asian side of Istanbul. we got bread rings, and later ate mouth-watering mussels.
Once dad returned from his trip to Atlanta, we did some big touristy things like visit the Hagia Sophia and ride a boat along the Bosphorus. We also found time to go to a local Anglican Church for a Sunday service.
Most of all, there has been a lot of cold rain.

Hi Annie! I am sorry for all of the rain, but you all sure look like you are making the most of it! Thank you for the updates all the yummy food! Question for you - how did they get the Obelisk of Theodosius to Istanbul from Egypt?! It looks big and heavy.
ReplyDeleteThey used logs to roll the obelisk and bridges to cross water along the way. It's crazy to imagine moving it even in modern times.
ReplyDeleteAnnie! That is really incredible! Can you imagine directing a project of that scale, both in distance and time?!
